New study finds link between gum disease and high mortality rates in cirrhosis patients
We came across this article recently that we wanted to share. Evidence continues to build that links periodontal (gum) disease to advancing disease processes in other body systems. A study was presented in April of this year that demonstrated links between gum disease and higher mortality rates in patients that have cirrhosis (irreversible scarring of the liver). One of our goals here at Austin City Dental is to improve our patients’ oral health so that not only their mouth feels better, but that their overall health also improves. We achieve this through thorough examination processes and customized treatment plans. We have a tremendous team of hygienists (shout-out to Kristi, Martina and Cathy!) that utilize instruments to remove plaque and tartar buildup and then sterilize the gum pockets with laser therapy. We also have a team of periodontists that we work closely with on more challenging cases. No matter the situation, we take pride in helping improve our patients’ health and well-being.
If you have concerns about your periodontal (gum) health, call us today so we can ensure we do everything possible to help you maintain a healthy mouth for a lifetime. Please remember that your oral health is systemically connected to your overall health!
